About The Network
The AHMIN is a partnership with several African Nova Scotian community organizations that are coordinated by the Black Cultural Centre for Nova Scotia (the organizational lead). Organizations include:
- African Nova Scotian Affairs
- Amherst Black Education Committee
- ANS Western Service Providers Network
- Black History Month Association
- Cumberland African Nova Scotian Association
- Valley African Nova Scotian Development Association
- Halifax Regional Municipality’s African Nova Scotian Integration Office
- Guysborough, Antigonish Strait African Regional Network
The AHMIN collaborates to develop theme ideas for African Heritage Month. Once again this year (2024), we had an online forum for community members’ participation. We, then, refine the ideas into a proposed list of five that is shared with various regional organizations to their committee members and stakeholders that is followed by a committee voting process where the theme is chosen. The AHMIN then reviews and approves the final design of the poster, which is then distributed and displayed in community gathering centers, schools, churches, government offices and businesses.
The AHMIN also facilitates African Heritage Month events and municipal proclamations across the province.
